
Program Notes –
“Renaissance” – the French word for “rebirth”, describes new growth of an activity or interest in a particular subject mainly within the creative scope, such as music and art. “Renaissance Overture” is a musical expression of old ideas going through a resurgence and improved upon in hopes to achieve a greater end result. This piece features a grand opening followed up by a lyrical andante section that includes a number of solo opportunities to showcase the players’ musicality and finally ending with a spirited march closing section, resulting in a captivating performance fit for any mature ensemble.
Composer Short Bio –
Benjamin Lau is a composer, arranger and music content creator who specialises mainly in concert band works and remixes of video game music. He is best known for winning the 2024 Australian National Composition Competition (Wind Band Section) with his successful concert band work “Guilin’s Majesty”, performed by the Yamaha Wind Orchestra. Currently, Benjamin is an aspiring musician who hopes to fulfil his dreams of composing full-time for the film or video
game industry and building full library of concert band pieces to publish and sell for performers across the world.
