WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
- The new State Government of Victoria Legislation requires all people working with children must have a current Working With Children Check. - “The WWC Check is a legal requirement for all individuals engaging in paid or voluntary child-related work in a relevant occupational category, as defined by the Working with Children Act 2005.”
- There are some exemptions. For example teachers who have VIT Registration. Please note that just having a Police Check does not exempt you.
- All players performing with school students are required to have a current Working with Children Check. Go on line to their website and work through each page of information
- click here to go to the Working With Children Victoria website.

IF YOU HAVE A VIT EXEMPTION
- “If you are currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), you are exempt from the Working with Children (WWC) Check. This is because registered teachers are subject to extensive criminal history screening and weekly monitoring similar to the WWC Check. In addition to this, registration is only granted by the VIT to teachers who are appropriately qualified and assessed by the VIT as ‘suitable to teach’.” from the Working With Children website.
- Those who already have an Exemption for a Working With Children Check must check the WWCC website
- supply a photocopy of a current VIT card, both sides, and
- give to the Personnel Manager, Secretary or email to secretary@graingerwindsymphony.asn.au

PERFORMING IN SCHOOLS AND THE CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCT
Each school has their own Child Safety Code of Conduct. They are typical of what all schools are implementing for all visitors to the school including trade persons. If we perform at a school, we will be asked to provide them with WWCC for all GWS members involved and we will be asked to provide each GWS member with their school’s Child Safety Code of Conduct.
Click here to download the Our Lady of Sion College Child Safety Code of Conduct. All members who played in the 27th May 2018 concert also had to sign on arrival that they have received a copy. This is usual procedure for all visitors to the school.
