Concert 6 2024: Harmonious Horizons a musical odyssey

Join us for an unforgettable evening that spans the rich tapestry of musical expression, celebrating the joy of the season with a captivating mix of festive cheer, timeless classics, and exciting new works. This concert promises to enchant music lovers with a diverse program that showcases the remarkable talents of our young musicians and highlights the contributions of contemporary composers.

The program features selections for band alone from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and the dramatic Manzoni Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, both offering powerful moments of grandeur and intensity. Adding to the excitement are works by renowned English composer Philip Sparke, whose pieces spotlight the versatility and brilliance of modern wind band music.

We are especially thrilled to highlight our 2024 GWS Young Player Scholarship recipient, Daniel Chong, who will perform the jazz standard Afro Blue on vibraphone. Also featured are Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger for wind quintet, Weber and Rimsky-Korsakov for Horn Quartet and the lively Bugler’s Holiday by Leroy Anderson for Trumpet Quartet, showcasing the exceptional talent within our ensemble in both solo and small group performances.

Vocal highlights include a stunning rendition of Grainger’s Skye Boat Song, performed by guest vocalists Erin Wallach and Kristian Gregory, accompanied by the band. The evening will conclude with a rousing, toe-tapping performance of Mary’s Boy Child, bringing a festive close to a night of musical splendor.

Don’t miss this celebration of musical diversity, the brilliance of contemporary compositions, and the talents of emerging and established musicians. This concert promises to be a night that will leave you inspired and uplifted.
