Concert 5 2024: Elysian Harmonies: Journeys of Serenity and Strength – Saturday 7.00pm 26th October 2024

Embark on a musical odyssey through realms of tranquillity and resilience with “Elysian Harmonies.” This concert invites you to explore the depths of the human spirit through a selection of evocative works, each weaving its own tale of peace, determination, and unwavering resolve.

Conducted by Associate Conductor Shane Walterfang, the program includes:

  • Peace Dancer by Jodie Blackshaw
  • guest soloist: Jason Xanthoudakis on Eb and Bb Clarinets will perform III Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Band by Oscar Navarro 
  • Paradiso by Robert W. Smith
  • GWS 2024 Young Player Scholarship recipient Daniel Chong performing a vibraphone work accompanied by pianoforte.
  • Three Revelations on the Lotus Sutra by Alfred Reed
  • Immovable Doh by Percy Grainger.

Jason Xanthoudakis has played with us as a member of the GWS as well as solo playing bass clarinet, alto saxophone, and clarinet. He has also worked on GWS Committee. He has a busy schedule performing professionally with most symphony orchestras around Australia and as a soloist with many community groups. Here is his website https://www.jasonxan.com/


Venue for the concert: Blackburn High School Auditorium, enter at 60 Springfield Road, Blackburn High. Both Springfield and Williams Road entrances will be opened. The Williams Road car park entrance will be opened for the concert to allow seniors to have entry closer to the concert venue. Please take care when crossing the road as traffic tends to move too quickly along Williams Road.

Remember to bring a cushion to sit on as the orange seats are not as comfortable as they could be!
