Ivan Maffeis – guest conductor

GUEST CONDUCTOR IN CONCERT 3 2024 MADE IN AUSTRALIA

IVAN MAFFEIS

Ivan is working in Melbourne as a Physicist in the mining industry since July last year. His music background includes – since 2011 he has been Corpo Musicale Bandistico of “San Zenone”, Curnasco (BG), Italy.  From 2017 – 2021 he was with the Banda Alpina, Trescore Balneario (BG), Italy. He was guest conductor in a number of events in Italy. He participated in numerous courses about conducting, completing the course “Instrumentation for Band” 2019 to 2023. The main repertoire included original music for wind band, for example Johan de Meij, Symphony No. 1 “The Lord of the Rings” 1st movt., Thomas Doss “Alpina saga”, Gustav Holst, first and second suites for military band, Luciano Feliciani “Blue mountains rhapsody”, Frank Ticheli, “Shenandoah” and works by Alfred Reed. He has researched historical Italian music for band.

Once he arrived in Melbourne in July 2023, Ivan chose The Grainger Wind Symphony to improve his knowledge of organising and conducting community wind bands. He has played percussion in four concerts with the GWS, was a full participant in the GWS Conducting Workshop on the 27th March.

In our concert “Made In Australia”, Ivan has been invited to conduct David’s Goddard’s “Moonlight Stroll”.

Sadly, Ivan will leave Melbourne in August 2024 when his Aussie contract finishes.
