
Richard E. Brown (b. 21 February 1947, Gloversville, N.Y.) is an American composer and educator. Dr. Brown studied at Central College, Pella, Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. he took graduate studies at Florida State University, earning Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees in composition. His principal teachers there were Carlisle Floyd and John Boda in composition and Charles Carter in arranging. Brown was a band director in public schools in Iowa, Texas, and New Mexico, and now lives in the Pacific Northwest, where he is active as a teacher and free-lance composer and arranger. Brown has written and arranged works for concert band, jazz band, marching band, along with church music, and scores for ballet, opera, and musical theater. In 1985 and 1986, Dr Brown taught and lectured in Harbin, China, where he developed his interest in Chinese music.
