Guest Conductors 2020 – a call for expressions of interest

The Grainger Wind Symphony is proud to be one of the leading community wind bands in Melbourne, with a refined sound and high-level artistic sensitivity from its members. Expressions of Interest are sought from experienced conductors to guest conduct The GWS and add to the artistic achievement and community value of the group in 2020.

EOIs are due 28 August 2019 in time for planning of the 2020 calendar, but may be accepted after, subject to a committee decision. If the selection panel considers it necessary, an audition/trial rehearsal is set aside for Wednesday 4 September 2019.

The GWS normally gives 6six concerts a year, most are full concert programs, some are shared with another group, some feature a soloist, and one features new, unpublished Australian works for wind band. There are between between 4four and 6six two-hour rehearsals on Wednesday nights to prepare for each concert.

The position is honorary, that is without remuneration, as all members are volunteers.

Expressions of Interest should include:

  • A brief covering letter, including possible suggestions for major works or concert program ideas (note: works do not have to be in the GWS library);
  • A brief CV outlining conducting experience and training;
  • Contact details for two referees.

Expressions of interest are to be sent to Roland Yeung by 28 August 2019.

Please note: if the conductor is deemed suitable, but is unavailable to conduct the group in 2020, a concert in 2021 may be offered by the committee.

Any questions can be directed to Roland on 0432 445577.
